September 30th, 1928 was a happy day for Shlomo and Sarah Wiesel, for it was the day that their newborn son by the name of Eliezer Wiesel was welcomed into the Wiesel household in Sighet, Transylvania. Wilfred Owens war poetry Good morning/afternoon teacher and peers, Wilfred Owen was born in 1893 in Oswestry (United Kingdom). He wanted to be a poet from the age of nineteen although most of his famous work is that which he wrote in his years spent in the war where he died in 1918. Question: Case Study Essay: Big Energy Sally Johnson is a member of the management team of XYZ Energy, a major government-owned energy company. Following a high-profile corporate sales process, XYZ Energy was bought by one of its private-sector competitors, Big Energy, for a record price. XYZ Energy was successful company that had established strong, efficient and robust processes and systems to manage its business and risks. It had also innovated new processes in areas, which gave it significant competitive advantage. The company had a loyal staff with relatively low turnover. The XYZ Energy management team was well respected by employees. A large majority of staff worked hard throughout the lead up to the sale to support the process and support each other. Although morale was not high, it was better than had initially been envisaged when the sales process was announced, the staff were extremely proud of the value they had built up for the company, and it was felt that Big Energy must see significant value in the existing processes and systems of XYZ Energy, as well as in their customer base. The core business structure of both companies was similar, not surprisingly given they both operated in the same energy retailing market. For example, both companies had marketing, commercial, operational and trading department, and each one of these areas was represented on the companies management teams. XYZ Energy also had a strategy department, which Sally Johnson managed. At the point of the sale, the chief executive and functional business members of the management team were immediately made redundant prior to any integration of XYZ Energys operations into Big Energy. Sally was retained post sale to facilitate parts of the integration or operations. With the removal of the core management team, it quickly became clear that Big Energy wished to remove the majority of the remaining staff as rapidly as possible once the essential integration of core operations was completed. Instantly the morale with the XYZ Energy staff plummeted as they realized that, like the management team members, they would not be allowed to compete for their jobs based on merit. Morale continued to decline and frustration arose as Big Energy failed to leverage innovative processes and systems for its own competitive advantage, focusing on the speed of integration rather than its quality and the long-term benefits. Big Energys senior management rarely came to the remote office to engage with their new team, and staff numbers dwindled as people elected to leave and more redundancies were occurred. Sally felt a strong loyalty towards the staff that had supported the growth of XYZ Energy, and therefore, immense anguish for them as their fate became clear. She attempted to argue to senior management that Big Energy should revisit its integration model and priorities in-order to preserve and leverage the competitive advantages and key skilled staff it had acquired. Questions 1 The rapid rate, at which Big Energy has opted to absorb XYZ Energy into its existing business model, has had an adverse impact on the employees that originally came from XYZ Energy. As the chief executive and the functional business members were made unneeded employees of the XYZ Company felt demotivated and anticipated that they would be allowed to struggle for their job based on their merit. Thus the attitude of the employees started to change and the attrition rate of the organization started to rise high. Behavior of the employees towards the organization has changed because their morale was dwindling. Loyalty towards the growth of the company was the value of XYZ organization which was now diminishing due to the impact of the integration model. The employees were frustrated because the management did not look after the welfare of the people and only focused on the process of integration rather than quality of work and long-term profits. There are two theories on which organizational behavior can be based: Micro organizational behavior theory: This behavior relates to the behavior of an individual and group dynamics in a workplace. Macro organizational behavior theory: This theory refers to the entire organizations and also industries, which includes how they operate and the strategies, frameworks and the incidents that direct them. Values are beliefs that we hold and which are under our control. It varies from one individual to another and one organization to another. It lays the foundation of attitude and motivation (Ujjainia, n.d.). It influences attitude and behavior. The values of Big Energy and XYZ organization did not harmonize between the supervisors and the employees which eventually had an impact on the interpersonal relationships on the effectiveness of the managerial leadership. The integration of the companies had a severe effect on the employees as their growth and development was at stake and encouragement was at its least thus when Sally tried to argue it was of no use and people started to leave one by one. The managerial skills of the management of Big Energy are to be questioned. The management lacked in human relations skills, where they lacked the ability to interact efficiently with employees of the acquired organization. The study of this particular paper is based on the second theory, i.e . macro organizational theory. Another key point of organizational behavior is culture. Organizational behavior depends greatly on culture (Schermerhorn, Osborn and Hunt, 2000). Company or corporate culture is hard to characterize but it is very much significant on how the organizations behave. Following is given the Scheins behavior model which emphasizes the three essential factors of an organizational culture. The case study depicts that XYZ organization had their own culture and all the employees have adapted themselves to it. The top management team was respected by all the employees because there was no autocratic leadership (Bloisi, Cook and Hunsaker, 2007). Every decision of the employees were encouraged and appreciated. The culture of XYZ organization can be illustrated with the help of the above model Artifacts: This includes the tangible elements of the organization like dress code, office jokes, furniture, etc. All these represent organizational artifacts which are recognized by people not a part of the culture. Values: These are the rules and stated values by way of which the employees of the organization represent themselves and to the others. XYZ organization had that professionalism. The organization had a value of competing for their work based on merit, but after Big Energy bought them the employees lost their motivation. Assumptions: These are implanted behaviors which are generally unconscious but constitute the spirit of the culture. After Big Energy bought XYZ energy, things have changed for XYZ not in a very good way. It is always seen that during mergers and acquisition the culture and behavior of two organizations are added up to create a business ambience that can strengthen or demoralize the success of an organization. In case of Big Energy and XYZ Energy, functioning from within companys technique, both the employees (of XYZ Energy) and the management (of Big Energy) are having difficulty to recognize the models of behavior and also how deeply the patterns can have an impact on the performance of the company. The mission of Big Energy should have been to make a positive influence and help the employees of the acquired organization to take hold of the significant of the behaviors of the organization so that every employee gets involved in making the companys future better and recognize and outline the internal setting of the company (Buelens, 2011). The essential component of an organization is human resour ce or the people because they make up the inner societal system of the organization (BOTTOM and KONG, 2010). Certain models are given by many theorists of organizational behavior, which were not utilized by the management of the Big Energy (Middleton, 2002). Thus we see that there are many issues in the integrated organization which had a negative impact on the people that made them leave the company. Big Energy wished to move the rest of the employees just after the integration of the core operations were complete. The integration model of Big Energy only focused on the competitive advantage of their company for earning long-term profits. It focused on the pace of integration rather than quality; they were not successful in acquiring innovative process of operations and system which demotivated the employees of the remaining organization. It is recommended for the Big Energy to go back to the behavioral model of organizational efficiency, which assesses the application of the knowledge and managerial skills to the people to examine behavior of group an individual. It is the employees and their value system and confidence on the leadership which makes an organization. The management of Big Energy needs to describe, understand, predict and control the behavior of the remaining employees in the organization. Following explanations are given for the same: Describe: The management must describe the individual behavior under his authority and recognize the attitude and should be able to point the behavior so that the situation of the organization is under check. Understand: When the employees started losing enthusiasm and elected to leave, Big Energy management should have understood the employee behavior as to why they are behaving in a different way and try to detect the cons so that measures can be taken to stabilize the environment. Predict: It was mentioned that Big Energy hardly came to the remote office to engage with their new team. One of the main aspects of the behavior model is to have frequent interactions with the employees so that the management is able to identify the personality of the workers. Control: Big Energy only concentrated on the integration process and not on the employees or the quality of work. They are recommended to train the employees and aim at their development process so that enthusiasm of the employees is redirected to the goals of the organization. The management should control the work environment to make it appropriate for the employees to work efficiently and effectively to gain higher production. Inter-dependence and management of processes is crucial for an organization to gain higher productivity and high job satisfaction of the employees. So Big Energy should ensure that the morale of the employees should always be high. They should use managerial sayings and dictums. After integration the morale of the XYZ organization was going down, the management of Big Energy should be transparent and uphold high level of value system and portray right behavior. By doing this they would be able to build a culture for its current integrated organization and bind all the employees to mutual cultural relationship. The fundamental of management is the integration of other resources with human resource so as to achieve desired goals of the organization. With not only concentrating on integration process Big Energy should also look after the human resource of the organization so that the morale of the employees are intact and keeping the attrition rate low. Big Energy should understand the nature of the organization and then take decisions (Lee and Pai, 2003). Also they should investigate the environment during change and as well as the employee needs so that they can use the model which is best suited for the organization to get better result. Some recommended models which are best suited for the integrated organization are: Supportive Model: This model depends highly on leadership. As for example, managers and officials of Big Energy should have supported and encouraged the remaining employees to perform well in their job. They should have got along with each other and helped the employees to develop their skills. Performance will be stimulated and better results will be achieved. Collegial Model: In this model the employees and management should work together cooperatively and accomplish their task. Here everyone has to work together as a team; they will have equal energy, willpower and responsibility towards their tasks. Big Energy should try to infuse the enthusiasm in the remaining employees so that they do not get demoralized with the integration and perform nicely competing with each other to get the desired results. System Model: The pedestal of this model is self-motivation and trust, and then it helps the performance to improve and better results are expected. This model is going to work in the integrated organization because the employees will be obligated to do their job and as well as accomplish organizational goals. Big Energy should convince the remaining employees that they are an important part of the whole integrated system so that they do not lose their morale. Big Energy is also recommended to follow McGregors Theory Y, relating to the case study with this theory, the remaining employees are self-motivated and ambitious but their capabilities and talent is underused in the integrated organization. So Big Energy should give right conditions to the employees so that they get motivated and work well. The management should build the potential in the employees and assist them in achieving their professional goals as well as the organizational goals. They should create an atmosphere of trust and encouragement for the development of the employees so that they can communicate well and reducing the disparity between the superior and their subordinates (Robbins, 2001). Conclusions: The major challenge of Big Energy is to choose the best model and examine its effectiveness which would be best fit for the integrated organization. These models will provide fulfillment of the employee needs. The management needs to observe, consider and interact with the employees to get best results from them (Middleton, 2002). Forest Ecosystem and Biodiversity Definitions A forest ecosystem is the basic ecologic unit in a particular forest that exists as home for a community of both native and introduced classified organisms.  A  forest ecosystem is  named for the primary tree species that form the canopy. It is defined  by all the collective living inhabitants of that forest ecosystem that co-exist together in symbiosis to create a unique ecology.   In other words, a forest ecosystem is typically associated with land masses covered in trees and those trees are often  classified by foresters into  forest cover types. Examples of just a few  broad names in North America are The northern hardwood ecosystem, the ponderosa pine ecosystem, the bottomland hardwood  forest ecosystem, the jack pine forest ecosystem and so on. The forest ecosystem is just one of a number of unique ecosystems including prairies, deserts, polar regions, and great oceans, smaller lakes, and rivers. Forest Ecology and Biodiversity The word ecology comes from the Greek oikos, meaning household or place to live. These ecosystems or communities are usually self-sustaining. The word usually is used because some of these communities can become unbalanced very quickly when detrimental factors occur. Some ecosystems, like tundra, coral reefs, wetlands, and grasslands are very fragile and very small changes can affect their health. Generally, you can assume that the more complex the structure, the greater is its species diversity. You should remember that a forest community is much more than just the sum of its trees. A forest is a system that supports interacting units including trees, soil, insects, animals, and man. How a Forest Ecosystem Matures Forest ecosystems tend to always be moving toward maturity or into what foresters call a climax forest. This maturing, also called forest succession, of the ecosystem increases diversity up to the point of old age where the system slowly collapses. One forestry example of this is the growth of trees and the entire system moving  toward an old growth forest. When an ecosystem is exploited and exploitation is maintained or when components of the forest begin to naturally die, then that maturing forest ecosystem goes into declining tree health. Management of forests for sustainability is desirable when forest diversity is threatened by overuse, resource exploitation, old age, and poor management. Forest ecosystems can be disrupted and harmed when not properly sustained. A sustained forest that is certified by a qualified certification program gives some assurance that the forest is managed to allow maximum diversity while satisfying the managers environmental and economic demands. In a network database structure, more that one path can often be used to access data. Databases structured according to either the hierarchical model or the network model suffers from the same deficiency: once the relationships are established between the data elements, it is difficult to modify them or to create new relationships. Relational Database describes data using a standard tabular format in which all data elements are placed in two-dimensional tables that are the logical equivalent of files. In relational databases, data are accessed by content rather than by address (in contrast with hierarchical and network databases). Relational databases locate data logically, rather than physically. This earth-based, nature oriented belief has been established since the thirteenth century, but it is not until recently that it has began to spread across the world. Everywhere we look we see something associated with the practice of wicca. The movie, Blair Witch Project, is one example of the growing belief in spells, charms, and covens. However, there are many people who disapprove of this practice and are labeling it as a 'false religion.'; Christians, for example, greatly disagree with the belief of witchcraft and find it in association with the devil. Today, there is considerable debate as to whether witchcraft in today's society is simply a harmless religion, or if it is an evil practice in league with Satan. Before anyone can speak their opinion on the practice of witchcraft, one must know a little bit about the religion itself. There are many different definitions of witchcraft. In Webster's Dictionary, it defines witchcraft as. The Christian definition of witchcraft is simply 'devil-worship'; or just plain sin. However, the secular definition is somewhere along the lines of 'cool,'; 'trendy,'; and 'new.'; Although these are the main meanings of the term 'witch craft,'; there are also some other definitions within different cultures, such as Indian medicine men, also known as witch doctors, who are believed to have magical powers that can heal the sick. Different time periods and religions also alter the meaning of witch or witchcraft.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  The history of witchcraft dates back all the way to the thirteenth century. During the 13th and 14th centuries, witchcraft was considered to only be harmless magic. However, in the 16th century, witches were condemned and tortured. Later, during the 17th century, witch hunts and trials died off, along with the 'witch craze.';   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Witchcraft was practiced in many different regions around the world. Most experts believe it's origination was somewhere in India or Africa, where magic was used as medicine. Later, the practice was brought over to New England with the pilgrims where it slowly began to grow within the puritan communities. There was a diverse group of people who practiced witchcraft. Most of them were... ...he is simply a Christian concept and he doesn't even exist.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Some people believe that witches can't even associate with Christians. This is one of the hardest questions to answer. Some of them say yes and others say no. While most say no, all witches believe that if you are in a religion, you are in that ONE religion alone. Witches disagree with belonging to several faiths, but they never remove themselves completely from another faith. Many things witches do are associated with Christianity, such as, weddings, Christmas services, and even talking to Christian relatives. While they do keep their distance from other religions, witches never cut off all communication with Christians and other religions.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  So is witch craft evil? Is it a false religion? There will never be a real answer to these questions. It seems that no one can agree on the same answer. Even the witches themselves have disputes within their own belief. My house is filled full with his smiles, kisses, hugs, laughs, and love†¦I cannot imagine what my life would be like without him. He is truly a gift. He means the world to me. I am very proud to have him in my life. Sometimes I get too much depression because of real life; I look at him, and forget what I have been though. Logic Cannot Prove the Existence of God Essay

For Anselm, using logic that can be deducted about God, it is clear to see that God’s existence is necessary. In the second ontological argument from Anselm, God is the greatest being possible; it is greater to exist by necessity than by contingence, it is therefore, impossible for God to not exist. In this argument, God’s existence is an analytic statement, it is impossible to prove that God exists and although Anselm believes that it does not need to be proven, there is no way of knowing that it is analytic. For example take triangles, every triangle that anyone can ever think of will have 3 sides that all add up to 180 degrees, that is simply a part of what a triangle is. Humans can however, prove this by drawing every possible triangle and testing them to see, with God’s existence that is not possible. For humans to consider his existence as an analytic statement, they would have to go faith and logic alone. In a way God’s existence could be a synthetic statement, which would mean that it would need to proven before the statement was true or not, the reason for this is because whether God exists or not does not prove his existence in reality as Anselm suggests in his argument. Kant would agree with this as he reviews Anselm’s ontological argument by saying that God’s existence is not a predicate, existence may be a part of the concept of God, but it does not proof that God exists. Descarte would also agree with the statement, as in his ontological argument he sets out that God is a perfect being, a part of being perfect is existing, and therefore God must exist. Descarte also uses the idea of the triangle in his argument, he writes that even if we think of triangles having four sides, the truth will not change; the triangle will remain to have 3 sides. For Descarte the triangle is God, he believes that God is immutable and will not change even if humans think he does not exist. Descarte would argue that logic can be used to prove the existence of God, he believes that God has instilled in humans an idea of God, which is that he is perfect, in this Descarte agrees with Anselm he then however, writes that we cannot talk of God unless he exists as a part of being God is existing. His argument, for Descarte, demonstrates God’s existence this argument is a priori and uses pure logic, and so for him God’s existence is an analytic statement.

Louis Sachar began Holes as a basic concept of the area which would later be called Camp Green Lake (Sachar). The story puts us into the streets of Stanley’s neighborhood and immediately into the action. We meet the young Stanley Yelnats, who is about to embark on an unexpected journey that takes him through the extremely painful and unforgettable Camp Green Lake where he is forced to fight for survival against the unbearable heat and all of the dangers lurking in the sandy pit of a camp. Stanley is a typical everyday kid that finds himself in the wrong place and the wrong time. Although he is a good kid that never seems to bother anyone, his family has an alleged history of being cursed. It ran in his family for centuries and it was only a matter of time before it caught up to him. After taking a pair of used sneakers that had been thrown down from a nearby overpass, Stanley finds himself sitting in a prison camp bus seat with nothing more than a toothbrush, toothpaste, and some writing utensils waiting on the unknown. He can’t get much passed the guards on the bus despite his good behavior, they only ignore him or bash at him to be quiet. The bus ride is long and painfully boring as they travel further and further into the desert heat. Eventually the bus slows down and the patrolling guard tells Yelnats that this is his stop. Stanley steps right from the bus onto the grounds of what used to be a camp for young adults called Camp Green Lake. Now it is a fiery oasis filed with holes. The biggest mystery behind Camp Green was why that the once wonderful lake and campgrounds were nothing more than sand and rocks in a desert now (Sutton). Stanley is then introduced to the camp warden, a mean and vicious woman with no sympathy for any human that walks the gro unds of the camp. Stanley is walked around the camp to his new living quarters where he meets Zero. They soon become best friends and Stanley finds himself at peace with the camp. It doesn’t take long for the warden to ruin that, however, as she walks in and takes Stanley to see what must be done for the duration of the time he is at the camp.

Sometimes people choose to try things for the first time because they want to or they like trying new things or they are forced to. It was the day I was always waiting for, my first ever 9th grade party. I was so thrilled that the person even invited me, only the ‘cool’ people were invited to huge parties and well let’s just say I was an ordinary girl. My friend Adriana and got ready at my place with excitement and off we went to experience our one life opportunity with the popular groups. I walked in the big huge giant building I started to have goose bumps all over my body, my heart started to race as fast as a rocket, I was so nervous. It was all dark and the music was so loud my ears felt as if I was on a plane and about to take off. Everyone was dancing, drinking and doing all sorts of things I only thought happened in movies. I looked on my right and there was Adriana with some guy sitting on his lap and drinking, she moved quit fast. I went over to check if she was okay. She said she was but she sure didn’t look okay. I was already starting to regret coming to this party. I didn’t fit with these people, I was with all the ‘popular’ people but I still felt like an outcast. Sitting in the corner alone, then a loud voice crawled into my ear â€Å"Hey, what are you doing sitting down alone? Come with me! † I had never seen this girl in my life, or maybe I have but she was just covered by the heavy make-up. The strange girl handed me a drink, and told me to drink it, it’s nothing. Mum warned me about this, not taking drinks from random people. I hesitated and told the girl I don’t want the drink. But she kept implying that I should just take a little bit and I was in the middle of all her friends and I didn’t want to be humiliated. I took my first sip of alcohol and then I saw myself dancing and making a complete full of myself. The room started to spin uncontrollably. I don’t remember half of the things I even did; it was like I was a different person. I look to my right and I see two people fighting and Adriana in the middle. I was so worried she was in trouble so I headed over there to help her. I was pushed and shoved around trying to get to Adriana and all I remember is some aggressive boy picking up a bottle and I was on the floor. All I could see was a blurred vision of Adriana screaming my name and it all went blank. That night would have to be the worst night of my life. One single drop of alcohol changed my whole night. I regret every single decision I made that night. I wish I can take it all back. Who would’ve thought the impossible could be possible.
